1. Don’t be a jack of all trades. You know the saying! “A jack of all trades is a master of none”. Be selective in what you choose to venture on. You have to keep in mind that you can’t do everything. However, you can do something big and important! If you just focus. Also, remember that it’s not about delivering quantity. Rather, it’s about delivering quality work. Whether it’s life or work, make sure what you are doing is something you are passionate about. Avoid starting things that you are not fully interested in since there is the tendency to stop halfway. This will result in a waste of time and resources. Be conscious of how you use your time and energy -we all have limited amounts so use it well!

2. Set big, scary goals. Your goals should be specific and clearly defined and make you so excited you want to jump off the sofa but also a bit scared!. Review your goals, break them down and make them part of your daily routine.


3. Make use of a to do list but just as importantly make a “not to do list”.  Manage your time more efficiently by prioritizing items on the list into important and not so important groups. Update your list daily and cross out those you have completed. Start with the important of course! People like us have so many ideas, creating a ‘not doing it now” list allows us to focus and finish one thing at a time!

4. Learn how to budget your time and energy. Now that you have a goal in mind, consider how much time and effort you will be needing in order to complete such goal. Be realistic. Don’t underestimate. Carefully plan your time and resources accordingly and integrate them into your schedule. Good planning will go a long way for you as you will not burn out easily.

5. Avoid procrastination. When you do something, your number one enemy is procrastination. You will feel like there will always be something that seems so much more important than what you are doing right now. Think about the possible consequences of putting off your tasks. Try to take tiny steps towards your important goals each day, after a year this amounts to an incredible body of work.

6. Use a time log. This is one useful way to eliminate wasted time. A time log can be very useful at times when you feel most pressured.

7. Stop being a perfectionist. Yes, you have an eye for detail and you want everything to be spot on. Sometimes, being a perfectionist can get in the way. If you can’t help it, you can try breaking the task into many little steps. Then, you can focus on part at a time. If you still put it off after breaking it down, consider breaking it down further. Soon you will realize that you are about to finish the task! Another way to do it is to give yourself the permission to do a draft version. Remember that there’s no need to get it right the first time. As long as you get started, things will just roll on from there. Better to keep moving forward than stuck! Done is better than perfect!

8. Be able to connect with your end vision. At the start, you feel that you are full of positive energy and enthusiasm. However, it’s a different story when you get into the thick of things. You may feel that you’re running low on energy and the hype starts to fade. Despite of this, please remember that all those intricate details is what makes your work beautiful. Every little bit you are doing counts towards that end vision of yours. Never lose sight of that vision. If your end vision slips away, you can bring it back by surrounding yourself with something that will remind you of your end goal.

9. Be present in your approach. By doing so, you will be able to complete your tasks in the here and now without stressing about the past or the future. If you give yourself the enough flexibility, working on a task becomes an adventure.


10. Track your progress. You should monitor your progress in order to find out what your next move will be. If you track your progress, you will better understand your current situation or how you are currently doing. This will make it easier for you to keep up with your momentum. A weekly review of your progress is highly suggested. In reviewing your progress, make sure that you answer these questions: am I on the right track as schedule? do I need to change something in my schedule? what % of your end goal have achieved? what is your target for the next week? 

11. Take time to celebrate what you have achieved so far. Everything you have done so far is an achievement. Every struggle and every hardship that you have surpassed is not only a lifelong lesson but an accomplishment as well. Celebrate your success. It doesn’t have to be grand. Give yourself a huge pat on the back or have a green smoothie. Celebrating is also a way to recharge and regroup.

12. Commit to it. Once you have started, be committed in finishing it. As Nike would put it, “just do it.”
